Butoh workshop with Iida Shigemi

I'm very happy to announce that the renowned butoh dancer and choreographer Iida Shigemi will be giving a workshop in Antwerp 11-13 November.

Iida was assistant of Kazuo Ohno (founder of "butoh") and his son Yoshito Ohno for 5 years.
His approach to life and creation is rooted in Buddhism and Eastern tradition, and he continues to develop his work through internships and creative workshops all around the world.

The Body Magic Workshop is a condensed process designed to help one find better ways for dancing, living freely and leading a full life as a member of human society as well as a natural creature. This process is useful and effective for every aspect of human life.

Iida: “Oriental body works are effective not only for performers but also for anyone who wants to live with good energy balance. Having done stage creation workshops for a long time, I understand that some foundations for creation is important. These foundations come from the oriental tradition. I call it Body Mind Magic according to Japanese words.”

Iida brings together many body magic techniques such as Noguchi-Seitai (Japanese contemporary body arrangement), Soutai (Japanese traditional body treatment), Jikyou-jyutsu, Makkouhou (Japanese yoga) , TFT (Thought Field therapy), Tibetan Yoga, Kikoh and meditation.

Iida: “My workshop is a process using the way of Butoh and contemporary dance theater. I will share some of the techniques of performing art with the participants - depending on the time we have. They are mainly based upon Butoh that I learned from Ohno Kazuo and Ohno Yoshito as well as some important body works."
